Vat Sop Sickharam
ວັດສົບສິກຂາຣາມ

"The Temple of the Corpse" was founded by King Suvanna Banlang in 1480 when he built a stupa for the remains of his father King Chakkaphat who had died the previous year. His body had been laid out in the monastery grounds for some time which led to the name. Within the grounds of Vat Sop stands a pavilion with three Buddha images. This used to be the location of Vat Nak ("Temple of the Naga") which was formerly used  for ordinations as Vat Sop with its connections to death was believed to be unsuitable.
The verandas on either side of the sim were added in the 1950's.

Vat Sop is listed in the UNESCO Heritage Inventory as #470
