Vat Simphaly Roukharam
ວັດສິມພາລີຣຸກຂາຮາມ

Village temple at Ban Kok Ngiew on Route 13 south of Luang Prabang. Constructed 2007 - 2011 with the support of patrons in Australia. The doors and windows are unusual being made of solid hardwood with the main doors depicting village life. The window shutters, depicting traditional deities, were carved by Luang Prabang artist Thid Pid. The colourful mural behind the main Buddha image inside the sim is quite distinctive, depicting deities, both good and evil, marking the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment. It is the work of artist Chan Hai from Ban Nakhone, near Nong Khiaw.
