Vat Phabath Tai
ວັດພະບາທໄຕ້
Founded in the late fourteenth century this temple overlooks the mouth of the Huei Hop River entering the Mekong River. The naga Chai Chamnong was believed to have lived on a rock here guarding entrance to the city further up river. This naga indicated his permission to build a temple at this location by revealing a large footprint of the Buddha which is today enshrined at the foot of the stairs leading down to the river. This is known as the "southern Buddha footprint" (From which the temple is named) to distinguish from the footprint found on Mount Phousi.
