"The Temple at the Mouth of the Nam Khan River" was founded in 1737 by Phagna Chanthep. At that time this area of the town was a commercial trading hub and building a temple near their trading station would be seen as way to bring good fortune to themselves and their business. Like most temples in Luang Prabang the sim has undergone numerous renovations, most recently in 2013. However, Vat Pak Khan is considered to be one of the towns best preserved examples of the early Luang Prabang architectural style.
