Vat Had Siew
ວັດຫາດສ້ຽວ
Located across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang this was a forest temple founded by the main palace in the early nineteenth century. The entrance has paintings in Chinese style depicting Buddhist stories. Inside the sim are very fine style but deteriorating Siamese murals depicting the Lao legend of Prince Kalaket. Within the grounds of Vat Had Siew is one of the few remaining Walking Meditation Halls in Luang Prabang [c.f Vat Long Khoun] The temple was abandoned for many years and sadly many wooden Buddha images were taken. The monastery has recently come back in to use and in 2023/24 a large new sala has been constructed on the site to accommodate the increasingly large number of worshippers on certain festival days
