The temple of Khoun Island. The island is considered sacred as local legend says that the Buddha together with his first disciple Ananda visited here. During Phi Mai (Lao New Year) the island would be used as a rest stop by the king when travelling to/from Pak Ou . Abandoned for many years it was probably restored as part of Buddhist celebrations in 1957 (2500B.E.) and was again restored in 2003 [The Lao Sangha and Modernity]
