Luangprabangculture.com is a personal project that I have been working on since 2022. My aim initially was to build an on-line map of all the UNESCO Heritage buildings in the town as currently this information is only available from UNESCO on a CDROM in pdf format. I have since expanded the objective to provide a site that will provide visitors detailed information about the history and culture that make Luang Prabang such a beautiful and indeed a spiritual place.
My journey here began in 1988 when I first visited Thailand and very quickly became enamoured with the country. As I learnt more about Thai history and culture both through travel and lots of reading, I was inevitably lead northwards. In 1999 I made my first visit to Luang Prabang and realised this was very much a jewel in the crown of Tai/Lao culture. Nevertheless it would be twenty years before I would return. So now I am making up for lost time by learning all I can about the town whilst also trying to help others who like me may want to learn more about this legendary place. I would love to receive feedback on any aspect of this website and I would be especially interested if anyone has more background or historical information that would correct, enhance or improve the information that I have written about. Please contact me at [email protected] or via the social media sites below. |
Whilst this website is focussed on Luang Prabang readers may also be interested in my other ongoing project siamrat.blog where I have published many articles discussing different aspects of Thai and Lao history and culture.
luangprabangculture.com has no affiliations with any other organisations and is purely a not-for-profit project I embarked upon because of my love and interest in the many facets of Luang Prabang history, architecture and culture.
